Fiddler2 is a debugging http proxy that allows you to view http requests. There is a plugin API that allows you to visualize the request and response amongst other things. If There was an Xml Visualizer v2 plugin, it would be useful.

Powershell has several cmdlets for displaying powershell objects like Out-Gridview. I think one that displayed an object as xml using your visualizer control would be very useful.

Also, I'm not sure there is much point in separating the control and the form into different assemblies. Separating the classes that need Visual Studio references from the ones that don't have merit because it allows people to reuse the controls without visual studio.

You have a great project here Lars, I can't wait to release the next version of MQManager.NET with Visualizer support. Hopefully it will be done soon.

I have made the ILMerge post build task in the VisualizerControl project because I would like to include the SharpDevelop TextEditor user control in "one package".

If I did not do that then prior to using VisualizerControl.dll you'll have to download and compile the whole SharpDevelop source code and add the TextEditor user control manually before adding VisualizerControl.dll.

Neither of the projects VisualizerForm or VisualizerControl needs Visual Studio references and can be reused without Visual Studio.

The reason why I have separated VisualizerControl and VisualizerForm is that VisualizerControl is a "standalone" user control that is included in VisualizerForm. VisualizerForm is hosting VisualizerControl and is used to display a dialog with the VisualizerControl included. VisualizerForm is used by both the DebugVisualizer project and the StandAloneVisualizer project.

I am also looking very much forward to see your implementation of Xml Visualizer in MQMManager.NET :)

Thanks for the nice xml visualizer!
A tiny issue: The OK-button on the About form is not fully visible on hi-resolution-displays that use the "Large Fonts" system setting in Windows.
(Setting the Form.AutoScaleMode property to "Dpi" is one way to resolve this issue.)

I have tried to get the Xml Visualizer v.2 to work with other DPI's than 96, but I haven't succeeded. The controls on the form will be messed up everytime I try. I have tried playing with the AutoScaleMode property but without luck.

You are more than welcome to suggest a solution, but a quick search on google shows that it's a common problem.

What exactly is the problem with handling other DPIs? I've not looked at this code, but I suffer the same problems. None of the other OSS projects I contribute to (SharpDevelop, MQManager.NET and PlaneDisaster amongst others) have this problem

I've actually been just changing the source code to remove the DPI check and living with the misrendered form. Maybe I should try to get my screen set to 96 DPI to see how it should really look.

I have replaced "Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable("temp");" with "Path.GetTempPath();" in the code.

You were also right about the missing reference to ICSharpCode.TextEditor.dll. I have set "Cope Local = True" for ICSharpCode.TextEditor.dll in the VisualizerMain project to fix that problem :)

Regarding the replacement of "string test" to "const string test" then it's on purpose that it's not a const. The visualizer reacts differently based on if the string is a const or not. If you wish to test program with the "Inject Xml back" feature then it should not be a const.

I have uploaded the changes to SVN and they will be included in the next build.

The only reason why I made the empty catch block was to bypass errors when the visualizer tries to remove a file that could already have been removed by the user.

To remove unnecessary overhead I left out debugging information on that catch block. I have removed the try/catch block now, and replaced it with a File.Exists instead. That's probably better :)

Lars,

Out of curiosity, why did you not add my trace messages to your empty catch blocks? Would you prefer System.Diagnostics.Debug calls? That should cause the messages to just go to the Visual Studio output window.

Conditional compilation could be used if you feel the end user would not want to see these messages, but you would find use in debugging them.
